Before you sign a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) in ICU, you need to watch this!

Today, I want to tell you something that could literally save your loved one’s life. Before you sign a DNR in ICU, stop! Don’t do it until you watch today’s video.
So, what is a DNR? The DNR stands for do not resuscitate. It means that if your loved one’s heart stops or they stop breathing, the
ICU team won’t attempt to save them; no CPR which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, no intubation, no resuscitation.
But here’s the part they won’t tell you.
Once you sign a DNR, it often becomes a slippery slope to withdrawal of treatment. Suddenly, they stopped trying as hard. You will hear phrases like, “There’s nothing more we can do.” “You need to let go.” “We’re now transitioning to comfort care,” which is a euphemism for “We’re now letting your loved one die.” Does that sound familiar?
But here’s
what I know after having worked in intensive care nursing for nearly 25 years in three different countries, where I also worked as a nurse manager for over five years. Families are often pressured to sign a DNR (do not resuscitate) based on fear, not facts. Personally, I have helped hundreds, if not thousands of families in intensive care, reversing the DNRs, stop premature end of life plans and buy time for recovery or for an end-of-life situation on their terms. Yes, some of these patients were written off but they recovered.
