Quick Tip for Families in Intensive Care: Cost & Process of Independent Medical Records Review That Might End Up Being Used in Court Litigation
Hi, it’s
Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Today, I have an email from Anna who asks,
“Hi Patrik,
There
are two things I’m looking for assistance with at the moment.
- Independent private medical assessment that may help either disprove that discharge would be safe, and/or that my father still requires an acute level of ICU Care, which requires ICU care in the hospital and,
- Cost and process of an independent medical record review that might end up
being used in court litigation.”
Well Anna, the good news is we can help with both of them, we have done both. We do mainly nursing assessments, but they are definitely independent.
We have proven with our nursing assessment many times that discharge is not safe or needs to happen in a
certain way or can’t happen to a certain facility.
We also look at home care nursing assessments. You don’t always need a medical assessment. We can prove pretty quickly with the nursing assessment with our legal nurse consultants that all have decades of critical care and nursing experience. We can verify there that a discharge can’t happen or it’s unsafe. We can do that very quickly, and it’s much
more cost-effective than a medical assessment.
Now, then you’re also asking for the cost and process of an independent medical record review that might end up being used in
court litigation. Once again, we have critical care nurse consultants on our books employed that are legal nurse consultants, and we are doing those medical record reviews all the time including for court litigation.
Now, the cost of any of those assessments, it really depends on the volume of the notes we need to look at. There’s a difference if we look at 100 pages of medical records in ICU or if
we look at 10,000 pages of ICU medical records. So, it’s fair to say that the more pages we need to look at, sort of the lower the hourly rate because it sort of comes in bulk, but we would need to look at it at the volume and we also would need to look at what questions you want answered.
So, it’s really best if you get on a call with me and you go to our website at
intensivecarehotline.com. Just schedule a call with me on my book an appointment link or call me on one of the numbers on the top of our website, and then I can discuss this further with you.
I have worked in critical care nursing for nearly 25 years in three different countries where I worked as a nurse manager for over 5 years and where I have been consulting and advocating for families in intensive care since 2013. It is without any exaggeration to say that we have saved many lives with our consulting and advocacy. You can verify that if you go to intensivecarehotline.com if you click on our testimonial section or if you go to our podcast section and you can watch or listen to client interviews that we’ve done who verify the
work that we’ve done where we’ve saved lives for their families and for their family members.
That’s also why we created a membership for families of critically ill patients in intensive care and you can become a member if you go to intensivecarehotline.com if you click on the membership link or you go to intensivecaresupport.org directly. In the membership, you have access to me and my team, 24 hours a day, in the membership area and via email, and we answer all questions intensive care related. In the membership, you also have exclusive access to 21 eBooks and 21 videos that I
have personally written and recorded, sharing all my 2.5 decades worth of intensive care nursing experience, making sure you make informed decisions, have peace of mind, control, power, and influence, making sure you can influence decision making fast when you have a loved one critically ill in intensive care so that your loved one gets best care and treatment.
I also do one-on-one consulting and advocacy over the phone, Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype, whichever medium works best for you. I talk to you and your families directly. I handhold you through this once in a lifetime situation that you can’t afford to get wrong. I also talk to doctors and nurses directly
on your behalf, and I ask all the questions that you haven’t even considered asking but must be asked. I can go in much depth with them because I can hold them account with all my experience and can ask the questions that you haven’t even considered asking.
I also represent you in family meetings with intensive care teams.
We also do medical record reviews in real time so that you can get a second opinion in real time. We also offer medical record reviews after intensive care so that you can get all questions answered if you have unanswered questions, if you
need closure or if you are suspecting medical negligence.
All of that you get at intensivecarehotline.com. Call us on one of the numbers on the top of our website or send us an email to support@intensivecarehotline.com with your questions.
