Quick Tip for Families in Intensive Care: What are Treatment Options for Pseudomonas Pneumonia in ICU? Is Palliative Care the Only Option?
Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
So, today I have an email from Vanessa who says,
“Hi Patrik,
My sister’s doctors either don’t want to or can’t treat her Pseudomonas bacteria pneumonia with alternative treatments such as medical grade manuka honey with a nebulizer, which from my understanding kills Pseudomonas bacteria pneumonia and they’re trying to push us to palliative care or basically end-of-life treatments instead. Can you help?”
Well, thank you, Vanessa for sharing this situation with me. I’m very sorry to hear that.
Well, unfortunately, this is not a novel situation for us. The good news is we have turned many situations around like this before. You just need to look at our testimonial section at intensivecarehotline.com or have a look at our podcast section at intensivecarehotline.com where we have client testimonials left, right, and center to verify how we help them, and we can do the same for you.
The first challenge for you is you’ve
identified obviously that medical grade manuka honey can be used by a nebulizer to treat Pseudomonas infection and this is verified through research. I’ve had a look, not that I’ve seen it myself, but it’s definitely been verified through medical research that this is an option to treat Pseudomonas infection.
But what families in intensive care that get what they want and get the best
care and treatment for their loved ones have in common is they take responsibility. They take responsibility for outcomes; they get the help they need, with us talking to doctors and nurses directly will make all the difference, by us looking at medical records will make all the difference because we give you the second opinion. The ICU team knows you have someone on your side that advocates for you, that understands intensive care inside out and as well as they do. But more importantly, we also
know about patient and family rights, which they’re trying to sweep under the carpet here because if you don’t want to consent to palliative care, well, you don’t have to, no one can force you to consent to palliative care.
Like I keep saying over and over again, end-of-life care does not happen in a vacuum. It happens around policies, procedures, and laws. They can’t just move your sister to palliative care unless you let them. So, once again, you need to take 100% responsibility and you
need to do whatever it takes, and we are here to help you and guide you through it step-by-step. I can’t tell you how many lives we’ve saved in intensive care over the years with our advocacy. Once again, have a look at our testimonial section and in our podcast section where we have client
interviews.
The biggest challenge for families in intensive care is always that they don’t know what they don’t know. They don’t know what to look for. They don’t know what
questions to ask. They don’t know their rights and they don’t know how to manage doctors and nurses in intensive care.
I have worked in intensive care for nearly 25 years in three different countries where I also worked as a nurse manager for over 5 years. I have been consulting and advocating for families in intensive care here at intensivecarehotline.com since 2013, having changed
and saved many lives over the years.
It also sounds to me like this is very early, they haven’t even tried. So, what else haven’t they told you? When we look at medical records or we talk to doctors and this directly, we always find that they haven’t even told you half of what’s going on because you don’t know what questions to ask, that’s when we can really turn situations around very quickly.
That’s also one of the reasons why we created a membership for families of critically ill
patients in intensive care that you can get access to at intensivecarehotline.com if you click on the membership link there or if you go to intensivecaresupport.org directly. In the membership, you have access to me and my team, 24 hours a day, in a
membership area and via email, and we answer all questions intensive care related. In the membership, you also have exclusive access to 21 eBooks and 21 videos that are specifically written and recorded for families of critically ill patients in intensive care, helping you to make informed decisions, have peace of mind, control, power, and influence, leading to your loved one getting best care and treatment.
I also offer one-on-one consulting and advocacy over the phone, Skype, Zoom, and WhatsApp. I talk to you and your families directly, but I also talk to doctors and nurses directly. Once again, you will see how the dynamics would shift in
your favor once we are involved, once I talk to them directly, once they know I ask all the questions they don’t want me to ask, and that’s when things really turn around in your favor.
I also represent you in family meetings with intensive care teams making sure your loved one gets best care and treatment.
We also offer medical record reviews in real time so that you can get a second opinion in real time. We also offer medical record reviews after intensive care if you have unanswered questions, if you need closure, or if you are simply
suspecting medical negligence.
All of that, once again, you get at intensivecarehotline.com. Call us on one of the numbers on the top of our website or send us an email to support@intensivecarehotline.com with your questions and comments.
